April 2008 Mayor's Memo
Mayor Memo Is it Spring yet?!?!? Wow, as I write this the weather report sounds more like December than April. Snow, wind, cold – not fun, and here I wrote last month about Spring being around the corner and people being more active! Soon, very soon, I hope! Spring will come, the ground will thaw and firm up, and then Kasson will be hopping. We’ve got quite a few projects that should get off the ground this spring or early summer. Construction season will be in full force and extend at least through early Fall. From the City’s perspective we’ll have the 6th Ave NW and West Main Street reconstruction project and the building of a new Public Utilities Building. We also will be seeing the School District start on their new building and we’ll be putting in a new road (11th Street NE) on the south end of the new Intermediate School property. This will be a tie in from Highway 57 to 5th Ave NE, and hopefully alleviate some of the traffic at 16th Street NE and Highway 57. We also hope to see some “open” properties refurbished and put to new uses. The old Kwik Trip property is still planned to be reconfigured as a new Burger King and the old Burger King property is still slated to open as a new Post Office. All in all it will be a very busy summer around town. To address questions about the City Construction projects this summer, we will be having a “Projects Open House” in conjunction with the monthly “Meet the Mayor” meeting scheduled for April 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Prairie Meadows. Please stop by and check out all that will be going on! Lastly, given the “hustle and bustle” of the next few months, “Meet the Mayor” meetings will be held next in June and in August. Hope to see you there! Tim Tjosaas mayor@cityofkasson.com
